PJKITA is a community initiative by Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) to engage with citizens through multiple channels (e.g. projects, grants, initiatives), learn about their ideas and aspirations to achieve a sustainable, creative and community-driven city.
To kickstart this journey, PJKITA is building activating a public street (that requires your painting & bricklaying prowess!) leading up to PJ FAIR 2017, a public event to celebrate the diversity of Petaling Jaya and bring PJ-rians together through a series of music, arts and culture programmes. The fair will mark the opening of constructing new community-oriented shop lots, a youth centre and the new MBPJ office in the area.
Open for anyone with no limitations to age & skills, we are looking for volunteers who want to contribute their weekends to for two activities: 1) Painting – learn the basics of street painting and flex your artistic muscles on the public road following guided designs! And 2) Bricklaying (7-8th Oct Special Event!) – learn basic brick laying skills and lay two 8-9 feet long x 3 feet high walls.

Petaling Jaya would be beautified not by hired contractors but by joint efforts between the local authorities, local architects and local citizens to start shaping a community-centred city from this space. The street mural will serve as a public landmark which leads to the opening of this public space, shoplots and community centre for all PJ-rians inclusive of ethnic background, age, religion and occupation.
