Through understanding someone's aspirations and struggles, we can best find ways to mutually support each other. Join us on our journey to better inform the world and its decisions to build a more co-operative and resilient future for all.
What's our purpose?
We want to give people the opportunity to explore a hidden part of Malaysia through the lenses of the Orang Asli families of Kampung Gurney. With the villagers' guidance, we’ll be seeking to understand their current living conditions together with a team of passionate volunteers.
The information gathered and relationships built will become a basis for us to work together with these families to support them in achieving a higher quality of life - on their terms. This is the perfect opportunity to enjoy beautiful sceneries, explore a culture different to your own, meet new people, and be part of an Epic community.
*NOTE: This will be our second visit to Kampung Gurney to meet the families! Help us finish the final push before we move on to the next steps in working with the community.
Who's eligible?
We welcome everybody to join us as a Pathfinder! Although there are some qualities that would help you become a supporter of this particular community:
Prior experience is not required. We’ll equip you with the necessary skills with a training session on Friday, 9th of November, a couple of days before you head out to the village to apply them on the Sunday, 11th of November. The journeys we embark on are often made worthwhile by the people we take them with, so grab a friend or two and join us for a weekend of learning, experience and fun.
What will we be doing?
A morning-long engagement in an Orang Asli village where you’ll be meeting the villagers - people with their own unique cultures and aspirations. Their way of life often comes to a shock for most city folk, but as we dive deeper into their culture we’ll discover that we have so much to learn from them.
Prior to actually going to the village, we will be having a casual get-together (training session) where we'll conduct basic cultural training about Orang Asli culture, and hands-on technical skills related to data collection & household assessment using EPIC’s tools and methods. We will be conducting discussions and activities related to cultural humility, communication & listening, critical thinking, and development, just to name a few.
This mission is a follow up to Mission PF#2 conducted earlier this year.

We hope to accomplish these outcomes:
1. Create deeper ties between rural orang asli and city people
2. Clear information that would help articulate the village conditions so that greater appreciation towards their resilience could be cultivated but at the same time help attract the right support required
Reviews from mission participants (1)
Though an experienced PF volunteer, it is always a unique experience with every village.
Even though this round was a follow up, to clarify the available information.
We still have to dedicate time, focus and compassion to speak to any family we meet, as well as anyone else in the village.
Another great and fulfilling PF mission with epic. Thank you for taking care of us and giving us this opportunity to help others.
