Join us to enable community impact
We are on a mission to empower communities in Kluang, Johor! In September, Epic Lead Pathfinders began basic mapping and conversations with village leaders to activate their local resources to develop their own communities. We have received their support to take the next step: Community Mapping.
We are looking for individuals to join us as volunteer Pathfinders, to interview community members and collect information that will enable the sharing of community stories in a dignified and accurate manner to invite collaborators to partner alongside these communities to enable positive impact.
If you have a passion for communities, enjoy having conversations or like to explore new places and meet new people, we invite you to join us as Pathfinders to map Kampung Orang Asli Sungai Tuba in Kluang, Johor. Find out more about this village below!
About Kampung Orang Asli Sungai Tuba
Kampung Orang Asli Sungai Tuba has been home to the community there since 1952, with currently around 31 families. Thriving on a mix of tradition and resilience. Villagers live in brick and wooden homes, including 10 built under the PPRT program, and sustain themselves through farming, fishing, and oil palm cultivation.
Surrounded by Endau-Kota Tinggi Forest Reserve, they gather medicinal plants like Pokok Kemenyan and Limau Mangi, though hunting is restricted due to conservation laws and tigers. Community life centres on community activities such as sports, and festivals celebrated like Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, and the Orang Asli Festival.
The villagers aspire to improve their lives through better housing, resolving water issues, and expanding their palm oil farming via a land request. Balancing heritage with growth, they remain united and steadfast in preserving their unique identity.
We are looking for 16 Pathfinders to map this village.
