Mapping Kampung Orang Asli Pengkalan Tereh

Join us to enable community impact

We are on a mission to empower communities in Kluang, Johor! In September, Epic Lead Pathfinders began basic mapping and conversations with village leaders to activate their local resources to develop their own communities. We have received their support to take the next step: Community Mapping.

We are looking for individuals to join us as volunteer Pathfinders, to interview community members and collect information that will enable the sharing of community stories in a dignified and accurate manner to invite collaborators to partner alongside these communities to enable positive impact.

If you have a passion for communities, enjoy having conversations or like to explore new places and meet new people, we invite you to join us as Pathfinders to map Kampung Orang Asli Pengkalan Tereh in Kluang, Johor. Find out more about this village below!

About Kampung Orang Asli Pengkalan

Kampung Orang Asli Pengkalan Tereh is a vibrant Orang Asli settlement located within a palm oil plantation in Kluang, Johor. Established in 1960 by merging four smaller settlements, it is home to 400 residents, predominantly of Jakun ethnicity. The village maintains a strong cultural identity, with traditions like 'Bayar Bidan' still celebrated and its history proudly documented in their village hall.

The river, a key natural resource, provides fish and contributes to the village's serene environment. Many villagers work in nearby towns or within the palm oil industry. Others engage in farming, fishing, or raising livestock, while some operate small vegetable farms. The villagers aspire to diversify economic activities, enhance their livelihoods, and preserve their unique cultural identity.

We are looking for 18 Pathfinders to map this village.
