Mission Description

Mapping Kampung Orang Asli Kuala Sengka

Join us to enable community impact

We are on a mission to empower communities in Kluang, Johor! In September, Epic Lead Pathfinders began basic mapping and conversations with village leaders to activate their local resources to develop their own communities. We have received their support to take the next step: Community Mapping.

We are looking for individuals to join us as volunteer Pathfinders, to interview community members and collect information that will enable the sharing of community stories in a dignified and accurate manner to invite collaborators to partner alongside these communities to enable positive impact.

If you have a passion for communities, enjoy having conversations or like to explore new places and meet new people, we invite you to join us as Pathfinders to map Kampung Orang Asli Kuala Sengka in Kluang, Johor. Find out more about this village below!

About Kampung Orang Asli Kuala Sengka

Kampung Orang Asli Kuala Sengka, a Jakun tribe village with a rich history, possibly dating back before the 1950s or even the Second World War, is home to around 100 residents across 28 households. Surrounded by palm oil plantations, the village’s natural assets, such as ground and hill water, play an essential role in their way of life.

The community lives harmoniously, practising a blend of religions. While traditional skills like weaving and the knowledge of medicinal plants remain, younger generations show less interest in these crafts. Most villagers work as ad hoc palm oil harvesters, with some tending small farms for self-sustenance. The community also possesses skills in farming, basic construction, and timber work.

Their aspirations include expanding agricultural and poultry farming, improving housing, and enhancing educational opportunities for their children. The village leader seeks advice on how best to communicate their needs to government authorities and external organisations effectively.

We are looking for 12 Pathfinders to map this village.
Mapping date & time: 18th October 2024, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
