The Ideas Academy is a learning centre for refugee and stateless children in Malaysia. We provide holistic learning for children between the ages of 12 to 18 using the Cambridge curriculum, as well as a Life skills programme and extra-curricular activities to develop our students’ soft skills.we believe in Education for all. We believe that education holds the key to global citizenship, something that no one - regardless of background, race or economic situation - should be denied.
Our 4 storey centre in Pudu, Kuala Lumpur holds 150 students, and therefore is quite heavily used. It's a bit rundown, so we are looking for volunteers to help us paint the interior of the centre! We hope to brighten up the centre, and by extension brighten up our students! We need about 10 volunteers per floor per day, so that makes for a total of 40 volunteers per day! We are looking for 25 volunteers on Friday, 24th August, and 10 volunteers on Sunday 26th of August! Help us brighten up our premises!

The IDEAS Academy is a Malaysian-Dutch joint venture between the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS), a Malaysian not-for-profit think tank and the Stichting Young Refugee Cause (YRC). IMPORTANT: When you have arrived at IDEAS Academy, find the sign that will point you to the small entrance that leads to a lift and staircase. Go up to level 2 and our representatives will be there to brief you.
IDEAS Academy occupies 11,000 square feet of space at Floor 1-‐5, 72A Jalan Metro Pudu, Fraser Business Park, Off Jalan Yew, 55100 Kuala Lumpur. Since its inception, no renovation work has been done, while 156 students and teachers use the building and its facilities 5 days a week.
To improve the learning environment of our centre, IDEAS Academy wishes to do some renovation work. At the moment, our walls are peeling and rundown, and we would love to spruce up the Academy where so many of our students, all from refugee or stateless backgrounds, find solace in their education.

This painting job suited what I was looking for in volunteer work. To give my time to do hands on work that requires active participation. I enjoyed doing this and will sign up for other similar missions in future. And I will encourage friends to join if they are interested. I met many others who were involved in the Sunday activity but I did not meet Nazrin Iskandar.
