EPIC BUILD (Latrines - Kg. Hulu Tamu)

Building 26 toilets and 21 Bathrooms with the Kg. Hulu Tamu Community

Welcome to THE HULU TAMU LATRINE PROJECT!

EPIC has been working with Kg. Hulu Tamu community since 2010, building 33 homes over 6 years, building relationships between residents and builders so that they support each other and find new, creative ways to exchange skills and knowledge. The idea is that the residents have requested for more assistance in helping them build the remaining latrines, that they will exchange the service by sharing their skills/craft/an experience. Please note that we are working this arrangement out with the village.

The build began on the 23rd April and will be ongoing for several weekends (Most villagers are only free on Sundays) until all the toilets and bathrooms are complete.

Registration for the July 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 builds is now open. In each build, which we will assist 4 homeowners in building a toilet each. Each team will be guided by the homeowner, a Local Coordinator, and an EPIC Specialist builder, who will be exchanging skills in building and an in managing the team.

Pre-briefing Details:

Location: The Collective, No. 20 Jalan PJS11/18 Bandar Sunway
Date & Time: 7.00pm - 8.00pm Fridays before each weekend (June 30, July 7, 14, 21, 28)
Purpose: We will share the agenda of the day, sort out groups and meet each other.

Build Details:

Location: Kg. Hulu Tamu, Batang Kali
Date:  2, 9, 16, 23, 30 July 2017 (subject to villagers' confirmation and sufficient number of volunteer registrations)

Agenda: 
0800 - Meet at designated spot. We will determine the meet up points based on the carpool list. 
0930 - Arrive at Batang Kali
1000 - Build begins!
1230 - Lunch. A volunteer will go buy lunch for us in town.
1330 - Build continues
1800 - End of day!

To Note:

1. Bring along RM50 to cover lunch & carpooling. This is just an estimate, but it shouldn't go beyond this.
   
   
2. COMPULSORY: Volunteers are required to have undergone the Builder Basics Workshop. 
   
   
3. Those taking part in the EPIC Exchange mission are required to bring along their safety helmet during the mission.  If you do not have a safety helmet, you have the option of either purchasing the helmet alone or the Builder Kit that consists of a helmet, gloves, a toolbelt, and poncho from us. You can collect the helmet on Sunday, before the build. 
   
4. Builder Kit: RM32.00

5. A briefing on the EPIC Exchange mission will be conducted on Fridays before each weekend (June 30, July 7, 14, 21, 28) from 7.00pm - 8.00pm. 
   
   

Other notes:
Wear sunblock
Dress comfortably (shorts, sports pants and a t-shirt)
Wear proper shoes (no slippers!)
