About
Stevens Chan the founder of Dialogue in the Dark Malaysia who lost his eyesight at the age of 45 brought back the 1st professionally trained Guide Dog, Lashawn, from Nanking in 2014 to start the Dogs for Sight movement to start the Guide Dogs School and Service in Malaysia. Despite raising much local and international media attention and coverage Stevens and Lashawn have not been able to make many breakthroughs in terms of gaining appointments to Dialogue with the relevant authorities to allow 0 Barriers Access for the Guide Dogs and their Blind Owners in our nation. Stevens and Lashawn have been denied entry to many private and public spaces including public transport since 2014. To date, Stevens and Lashawn are only allowed entry into 4 Shopping Malls in the KL and PJ area. Sadly Lashawn passes away in May 2020 during the MCO period. To continue this mission Stevens aims to start a Lashawn Gallery and Information Center at the Dialogue in the Dark Center at the Weld in KL to raise more awareness of this Guide Dog Service for the Blind community in Malaysia. Stevens is also planning to bring back the 2nd Guide Dog within the next 2 years to Malaysia to continue their Dogs for Sight mission that will prayfully be allowed in our nation someday soon.
