About
The Malaysian Social Research Institute (MSRI) is a non-governmental organisation currently dedicated to providing education, health, livelihood and emergency programmes to refugees and asylum seekers from minority communities living in Malaysia. At present, there are approximately 5,764 individuals registered with MSRI. Our focus group comes mainly from the Middle Eastern, Central Asian and African regions, which include nationalities of Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Palestine, Syria, Pakistan, with a smaller number coming from other countries such as Somalia, Yemen, Sudan or Eritrea.
The range of our programmes ensures a holistic support to our beneficiaries, including health, education, livelihoods, legal and social services, which are implemented through our partnerships with UNHCR and several other corporations and foundations. We are among UNHCR’s education partners that deliver programmes benefiting the refugee and asylum-seeking minority groups in Malaysia, specifically the 8% out of the entire refugee and asylum seeker population registered with UNHCR Malaysia, representing non-Myanmar populations.
